Where Brazil's first
Oktoberfest was born
Long before it became a tradition across the country, the Brazilian Oktoberfest began in a rural community in western Santa Catarina — with a decorated tractor, grilled chicken, draft beer and accordion. This is the National Birthplace.
The origin
It all began in a paddock, lit by a tractor's battery
In October 1978, inspired by Leopoldo Wolhfart's accounts of the Munich festival, a group of friends from Linha Becker organized the country's first Oktoberfest. There was a tractor parade decorated with coconut-palm leaves and flowers, a toast with beer, grilled chicken and plenty of guitar and accordion music.
From that simple night came the title the community carries with pride: National Birthplace of Oktoberfest.
